• Horse Trekking to Lake Ogii & Orkhon Valley National Park.

Ride through Genghis Khan’s capital city

This trek will take you to the famous Orkhon Valley National Park, in Central Mongolia. Its vast steppes and rich grassland makes it the perfect place to enjoy long galloping and see animals grazing around nomadic gers. This region was able to preserve its Mongolian nomadic tradition and archeological site for centuries allowing it to be part of the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Khara Khorum, the 13th and 14th century capital of Genghis Khan’s empire, will be visited on this trip with an excursion to its active Buddhist Monastery, Erdene Zuu Monastery, and its museum. On your route you will also stop at the Khujirt natural hot springs and the beautiful Orkhon River waterfall.

You will have the opportunity to stop and share some milk tea and dried cheese with the locals.
The route will be very gentle constituted of open steppe and small hills allowing a lot of galloping. You will ride about 35 to 40km per day. This trek has a logistic vehicle with camping equipment and cook.
Each night you will be camping in this beautiful valley under a starry sky.

Day 1. Lake Ogii.

Day 2 – 3. Orkhon River Valley.

Day 4. Khara Khorum, Ancient Capital of Genghis Khan.

Day 5-6. Orkhon Valley National Park & Waterfall.

Day 7-8. Khujirt Hot Spring.

Day 9. Hustai National Park and back to Stepperiders’ base camp.

Day 10. Ulaanbaatar & Departure.

 

Day 1. Travel to Lake Ogii.

Meet us at Stepperider’s camp or at your accommodation in Ulaanbaatar. We will travel to lake Ogii, home to many birds and fish, and arrive in the late afternoon to explore the surroundings. It is a good place for horseback riding. Meet with your horses and horseman.
Stay overnight at tents, at the lake shore.

Day 2 – 3. Horse Riding to Orkhon River Valley.

We will start our journey riding towards the Orkhon valley national park. On those 2 full days of riding you will benefit from real Mongolian riding experience and enjoy riding through green landscape. We will have a break to visit a nomadic family and get a first introduction to their lifestyle.
Stay overnight in tents under starry nights.

Day 4. Horse Riding to Khara Khorum, Ancient Capital of Genghis Khan.

We will ride to Khara Khorum and visit the legendary Buddhist monastery Erdene-Zuu and its local museum. After the visit, we will ride out of town to camp in the countryside.
Stay overnight in tents.

Day 5-6. Horse Riding Through Orkhon Valley National Park & Waterfall.

We will continue our horseback riding through the Orkhon Valley national park. On the way you will see hundreds of animals as well as rich flora.
On the second day, late afternoon, we will reach the Orkhon waterfall. This fascinating waterfall drops from 24m-high cliffs.
Stay overnight in tents.

Day 7 – 8. Horse Riding, Return Back to Khujirt Hot Spring.

In the morning, we will ride to the Khujirt hot Spring, through a valley and forested mountains. Once at the hot springs, we will end our horse riding and say goodbye to our horses.
Stay overnight in tents.

Day 9. Travel Back to Steppe Riders Camp via Hustai National Park.

In the morning, we will drive back to Ulaanbaatar. On the way, we will stop at the Hustai national park to observe the Mongolian wild horses Takhi and wildlife. It is a rare opportunity to see those Takhi horses in nature.
We will stay overnight in a ger at Stepperiders camp.  

Day 10. Ulaanbaatar & Departure.

Goodbye to your trek team and transfer back to Ulaanbaatar.
